Operation Shoebox has been shipping care packages to our troops deployed in war zones since 2004.

Operation Shoebox was established in 2004 by the late Constantinos Emanuel Campanis—those who knew and loved him called him Dino.

He was a veteran who joined the Army in 1968 and served tours in Vietnam and Germany.  Dino often spoke of the fond memories he had of his mother sending him packages while deployed and what that meant to him.  The morale boost he got from receiving the care packages kept him going.

His love of country and his desire to support our troops led to the creation of Operation Shoebox.  Dino started sending boxes of personal care items, snacks and supplies to troops serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and South Korea.  Community members and groups got involved by volunteering to help pack the boxes.  Dino’s shoe store, Campanis Orthotics, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania quickly became a donation drop off location and the second floor was turned into a production line for organizing donations, packing boxes, and preparing customs forms.  The Lemont Post Office joined the effort by helping with shipping.

Dino vowed to support our troops for as long as he was physically able.  In 2011, his health declining, Dino partnered with Paula Parker, co-founder of Military Families Ministry, to continue Operation Shoebox.

March 16, 2012, at the age of 62, Dino passed away, but his love and support of our service members lives on.  Paula Parker now directs Dino's Operation Shoebox and thanks to the continued support of the Campanis family, care packages--with much needed suppllies--are still being shipped to our troops on the front lines.  More than 4000 boxes have been shipped to service members in war zones since Operation Shoebox began and our mission is to continue Dino's vision until they all come home.
